Coliving Semkovo is a large-scale project for the conversion of the abandoned communist hotel "Rila" — 16,700 sq.m. — in a place for an international community of digital nomads living in over 200 studios and apartments.

Let’s keep the character, not erase it

The inside of the building combines the brutalism characteristic of communism with interior elements from the 1950s. To ignore them and remove morally outdated but very strong materials such as marble, natural wood and solid wood furniture would be completely unsustainable – so we carefully preserve them and upgrade them with modern touches.

Foyer with marble, mosaic and brass

The marble flooring is polished and covered with a custom hotel carpet that adds acoustics and comfort to the grand foyer and compliments the large-scale hand mosaic wall detail. We add more completeness with large brass lighting fixtures of our design.

Residential sections and selfie corner

We have combined the three living sections that follow a single design line — easy-care polyurethane floors and foiled walls. We also thought of a selfie corner in each corridor, with the logo of the complex; the triangular gradient evokes a stylized shape of an evergreen fir.

The studios and apartments: contemporary, clean and smart

From the common corridors, we pass without a transition with a polyurethane, easy-to-maintain flooring in the kitchen — which also contributes to the visual separation of the zones in the studio. The walls are protected and easy to clean and rebranded with foil, with a drawing of mountain peaks and a lift, themed to the place. The light tones of the walls and cabinet furniture expand the space, and the accent colors are actually the colors of the corporate identity of Coliving Semkovo. The laminate laid diagonally on the floor and walls expands the space and repeats the detail of the common areas.
