Micro dwelling (attic)
35 sq.m. with chamfers, two windows and caravan logic - a complete home for a young lady.
Request a project →The ceiling "on the edge of the possible" is one of our favorite projects because of the high ball it represented - 35 sq.m. with chamfers, only two windows, in an old building where every beam and wall is load-bearing, and with the client's high hopes for us.
When we started, it was actually three separate ceilings that we combined with a structural engineer. On 35 sq.m. we separated a main bedroom with a built-in wardrobe (10.5 sq.m.), a second bedroom (7.5 sq.m.), a living room area with a kitchen (9 sq.m.), a bathroom and a separate toilet. As this is a young lady’s main residence, there needed to be plenty of storage space for clothes, shoes and jewelery and a fully functional kitchen – so we took inspiration from caravan and mobile home design.
In 176 cm width, we fit a fully equipped kitchen – built-in refrigerator with chamber, oven with microwave, washing machine with dryer, induction hobs, absorber with shelves for spices, sink and cabinets; the knives are on a magnetic wall stand, and the dining table is an extension of the hot plate. We used all cubatures and niches for closets, the sofa has a chest and a sleep function, the bed in the master bedroom goes against the wall, and in the second bedroom it is higher, with two rows of drawers below. A mirror wall and vertical beams optically expand the room, and between them there is a retractable shallow desk.
It was a big challenge to separate three rooms with only two windows. We solved the light problem by illuminating the entire ceiling of the living-kitchen area (a room without a window) and created a feeling of warmth and coziness.
Let's create something equally bold for your space.
